MALAYSIA will bolster cooperation with New Zealand to combat terrorism, said Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“I have conveyed our government’s deepest condolences to New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters and its people, and to families of the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Christchurch.
“The government of Malaysia stands together with the government of New Zealand in this difficult time,” she said after a meeting with Peters in the Parliament building today.
Peters is in Malaysia on a two-day working visit.
In the wake of the Christchurch shootings on March 15, Malaysia and New Zealand are expected to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including on anti-terrorism efforts.
A Malaysian teenager was among the 50 killed when a white supremacist opened fire at two mosques. Three Malaysians were hurt in the attack.
Peters also thanked the Malaysian government for its support during the crisis.
He said New Zealand is moved by the outpouring of support from the 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
“Malaysia stood with us during a very bleak hour and we have been touched by 50 Muslim civil society groupsthat have visited the High Commissioner in Kuala Lumpur to pass on messages of solidarity since the attack.” – March 27, 2019.
