A PATHOLOGIST, who last week testified that firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was “most probably” hit by an emergency vehicle, has been accused of lying to the inquest.
“I was criticised and accused of lying in my testimony last week,” pathologist Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi told the coroner’s court.
Dr Hafizam, who carried out the autopsy on Adib, told the court last week that the firefighter’s injuries were “most probably” caused by an impact from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle as it was backing out during the riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya.
A Facebook user, who identified herself as a nurse, accused Dr Hafizam of lying in his testimony.
The nurse caused a stir over the weekend when she posted on social media that she had treated Adib’s wounds when he was transferred from the Subang Jaya Medical Centre to the National Heart Institute (IJN) and knows the truth about the fireman’s death.
Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Hamdan Hamzah today asked Dr Hafizam to respond to the allegation.
“I don’t wish to reply,” he said.
“If anyone has any information that I did not find during my examination, I ask that the coroner get them to testify in the inquest,” he told coroner Rofiah Mohamad.
Hamdan read to the court the woman’s Facebook.
Dr Hafizam said he stands by his post-mortem and clinical examination report, which found no injuries to the face.
“(However) I have found no injuries to the face of the deceased, whether during the clinical examination or during the post-mortem.
“Whatever injuries we have found during the post-mortem or the clinical examination have been documented accordingly,” he said.
He said he had made his statements to the court based on his examinations and what was the most probable situation of the events of that night.
The inquest was called by the government amid conflicting claims on the cause of Adib’s death.
Adib died on December 17 at IJN of multiple organ failure from the injuries sustained at the riots. – March 26, 2019.
