PAKATAN Harapan has appointed DAP’s M. Kulasegaran and PKR’s Christina Liew as new vice-presidents, said chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The opposition coalition also appointed Amanah’s Husam Musa as its new treasurer, replacing Kulasegaran.
Liew is Sabah PKR chief.
“The amendments were made so that we can represent all races in Malaysia,” said Dr Mahathir during a press conference at Amanah’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur after chairing a PH presidential council meeting today.
PH now has six vice-presidents, with the others being PKR deputy-president Mohamed Azmin Ali, Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen and Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub.
Prominent lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan had previously criticised the lack of Indian representation in the coalition’s line-up.
She reportedly said it was important to engage the Indian community, as well as those in Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said there had been no official request from Indian pressure group Hindraf to join the opposition pact. – September 11, 2017.
