ANOTHER senior officer of the Companies Commission Malaysia (CCM) was arrested today over abuse of power allegations that have caused the government RM30 million in losses.
The man arrested is the deputy chief executive officer (regulatory & enforcement) and this brings to four the number detained in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) probe into the abuse of an internal system at CCM.
MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Azam Baki confirmed the arrest of the 48-year-old man, who will be brought to the Putrajaya magistrates’ court tomorrow.
MACC sources told The Malaysian Insight that the man was arrested around 12.30pm today at the graft-buster’s office in Putrajaya where he had gone to give his statement.
“It relates to the granting of approvals without following due process of the commission,” the source said.
Two days ago, a CCM director and two other individuals were remanded for five days to assist in investigations into allegations of abuse of power.
The other two are a senior CCM officer and an individual linked to an information technology (IT) firm. The IT company is a subsidiary of Pos Malaysia Bhd.
Investigations are homing in on whether they abused an internal system at CCM without complying with the Digital Signature Act.
As a result, the government suffered losses amounting to RM30 million between 2017 and 2018.
The arrests follow months of investigations by the MACC into CCM’s awarding of contracts since 2009 that allegedly bypassed the open-tender process. – March 21, 2019.
