ANOTHER senior officer of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) will be called up by anti-graft officers in the ongoing investigation into claims of abuse of power that have seen losses of RM30 million.

Sources from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the CCM officer will be called to the headquarters in Putrajaya tomorrow morning.

“Our questioning of the officer is linked to the remand made yesterday,” a source told The Malaysian Insight, referring to the five-day remand order granted by the magistrate’s courts to hold a CCM director and two other individuals.

The allegations of corruption involve the abuse of an internal system at CCM without complying with the Digital Signature Act 1997.

As a result, the government suffered losses amounting to RM30 million between 2017 and 2018.

The two individuals were the directors of an information technology company that is a subsidiary of Pos Malaysia Bhd.

All three were arrested in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya yesterday and were, according to the source, the first of many who could be charged over the contract scandal.

The anti-graft authority had since January been investigating a RM500 million Business Reporting System of Malaysia project awarded to Formis Network Services Sdn Bhd.

Of particular interest to MACC is the manner in which CCM awarded its contracts since 2009 that allegedly bypassed the open-tender process.

Under MACC’s microscope is CCM’s purchase of office buildings in Perak, Melaka and Sarawak that reportedly totalled around RM94 million.

MACC was reportedly tipped off to the allegations by a civil society organisation which claimed that several projects were awarded to the same individuals and companies. – March 20, 2019.
