PAS is clutching at straws by making up slanderous stories about the Pakatan Harapan government, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said today
PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah today insisted there was a plot by a PH faction to table a vote of no-confidence in Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and it would have succeeded if PAS had not foiled the plan.
Amar said his party leaders had information that it was going to happen and had exposed the plan to prevent it.
Anwar denied these allegations today, at Rantau by-election candidate Dr S. Streram Sinnasamy’s meet-and-greet session in Mambau, Negri Sembilan.
“They (PAS) don’t have any other ideas and they cannot answer the RM1.4 million issue, so they look for new ways (to attack PH),” said Anwar, referring to his claim that he has evidence that the Islamist party paid Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown RM1.4 million to settle a defamation suit that the PAS president had filed against her.
Sarawak Report has confirmed that PAS paid the portal’s RM1.42 million legal bill to settle the defamation suit. PAS refutes the claim, saying it has documents to prove the PKR president’s so-called evidence is hearsay.
Anwar today warned the Islamist party not to lie
“They are an Islamic party, they shouldn’t be telling lies,” he said.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang sued Rewcastle-Brown in London over a Sarawak Report article entitled “As Najib denies all over 1MDB, let’s not forget his many other criminal connections” published on August 6, 2016.
The article suggested that former prime minister Najib Razak had courted PAS’ support for Barisan Basional by funnelling RM90 million to the party’s top echelons.
However, Hadi subsequently dropped the case midway, opting instead to settle the suit out of court. – March 17, 2019.
