BUKIT Aman will investigate the allegation that a juvenile was physically and sexually assaulted while in detention waiting for the murder trial of Cradle Fund chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan

Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he will instruct the Kuala Lumpur police to give attention to the claim.

“I can’t comment (further) as I have not received any report on the matter. But if there is a report, we will investigate to get the true picture.

“Such incidents should not happen. The allegation will be investigated,” he told a press conference in Nibong Tebal, Penang today.

This morning, the boy’s lawyer Hisyam Poh Teik told the Shah Alam High Court that the youth has been sexually and physically assaulted by other inmates at the detention centre in Sentul.

Teh asked the court to transfer the boy to Puncak Alam in Shah Alam.

The boy and his brother, along with their mother, were charged with the murder of their stepfather, Nazrin. They claimed trial. Their Indonesian maid Eka Wahayu Lestari was charged in absentia.

Meanwhile, Fuzi said Malaysian authorities do not tolerate terror-related activities by foreigners in the country.

“We will take stern action. We will not allow Malaysia to be a transit point or safe haven for foreign terror fighters involved with terror groups such as Isis Daesh and Bako Haram.”

Bukit Aman recently said six Egyptians, a Tunisian and two locals were arrested last month in the Klang Valley and Sarawak over their alleged involvement in terror groups operating in North Africa.

In Sabah, Fuzi added that Bukit Aman is working with Sabah police to respond to Abu Sayyaf activities.

It was reported that a group of 17 gunmen had been in waters off Sabah, looking for hostages for ransom to fund their operations.

Some arrests, Fuzi said, have been made but no details are given.

“The operations are still ongoing. We will issue a statement soon.”

Earlier, Fuzi presented Jasa Pahlawan medals to 335 police officers at the Selatan Seberang Prai district police headquarters.

He said a total 1,100 police officers, including some retired policemen, in the state are eligible for the medal as an appreciation for serving more than 30 years. – The Malaysian Insight, March 12, 2019.
