MUHAMMAD Khalil Abdul Hadi, the son of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, was questioned by anti-graft investigators yesterday over the RM90 million the party allegedly received from Umno.

The PAS youth leader was summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya where he was questioned over a BMW superbike allegedly bought with funds from the RM90 million.

A MACC source told The Malaysian Insight that Khalil, who is also the Batu Buruk assemblyman, denied that the superbike was his.

“He instead said the bike belonged to PAS youth secretary Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden,” the source told The Malaysian Insight.

Khalil is among a slew of PAS leaders questioned by the anti-graft agency in recent weeks on allegations that the RM90 million came from scandal-ridden state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Pahang PAS ulama Mokhtar Senik and the party’s information chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi are the next to be questioned by the MACC.

The two have been summoned by the anti-graft agency to turn up at its office in Pahang tomorrow morning.

MACC has so far questioned PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin, exco Mohamed Nasir Che Daud, secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

Also under investigation are former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa and Husam Musa, who is now Amanah vice-president.

MACC confirmed the case does not involve party accounts because there was no transfer from 1MDB to PAS’ official bank accounts via Umno.

However, investigations were extended to several PAS leaders and individuals linked to the Islamist party. This follows leads that the money was transferred via multiple accounts and possibly laundered.

MACC began its investigations after Hadi withdrew his suit against Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, who accused the party of receiving money from Umno.

Sarawak Report also alleged that PAS used the money to fund its campaign costs in the 14th general election.

On Tuesday, MACC recorded the statement KTMB chairman Rameli Musa when his name matched the account that paid RM1.42 million in legal costs to Rewcastle-Brown in the settlement with PAS.

Rewcastle-Brown last week confirmed that Hadi paid her legal costs as part of an out-of-court settlement.

Rameli is being investigated for money-laundering as the funds were moved from several accounts linked to him before being transferred to Rewcastle-Brown. – March 7, 2019.

  • Seem to me there has been too much quizzing done and perform with no real action taken in short, all talks and no action. Are the authorities putting up a show or wayang kulit or simply blowing hot air?? Its always been the case where a lead was given or an expose was made open, well see someone being pull in for questioning and the story ends there. To me if the quizzing and questioning is made public rightfully the outcome or status should also make public else why bother making it public in the first place. Start by having case status update in your official websites to begin with, can or is that too much to ask for??
