BLOGGER Wan Muhammad Asri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, claimed trial at the Kajang magistrates’ court today for allegedly insulting and causing hurt to Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
He was charged with uttering the word “stupid” and causing injury to Syed Saddiq on the neck and shoulder in the incident that took place on during the Semenyih by-election nomination day on February 16.
He pleaded not guilty before magistrate Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Refingah when the two charges were read out to him.
The court granted the Umno Youth exco member bail of MR8,000 in one surety and to report to the police station once a month.
He was represented by Nik Saiful Adil Burhan, Farhan Maarof and N. Logendran.
He paid the bail and left the court shortly after.
He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code with uttering the word “stupid” to the minister.
Section 509 provides for a punishment for a person using a word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person.
He was also charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which entails a punishment for voluntarily causing hurt.
The blogger allegedly injured Syed Saddiq’s neck and shoulder in the incident on February 16.
Case mention is on April 1.
He arrived at the court at 8.30am accompanied by Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Syed Saddiq last week lodged a police report alleging that Azri had held him in a chokehold when their paths crossed on nomination day for the Semenyih by-election.
Azri filed a counter complaint, saying the minister lodged a false report. – February 28, 2019.
