DAY 12 of the inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim has been postponed until tomorrow as the lawyer representing the Housing and Local Government Ministry, Syazlin Mansor, is unwell and could not attend today.
Coroner Rofiah Mohamad Mansor decided to call off proceedings for the day as the lawyer is the only one representing the ministry and also the Fire and Rescue Department.
“Considering Syazlin is the only lawyer representing both these parties, it is unavoidable that we have to postpone the inquest till tomorrow (Friday),” said Rofiah.
Earlier lawyer for Adib’s family, Kamarulzaman A. Wahab told the court that Syazlin could not attend today’s proceeding as she had a migraine.
Deputy public prosecutor Hamdan Hamzah did not object to the postponement.
It is understood that the 19th and 20th witnesses during the riots at the Seafield Sri Mahamariamman temple in Subang Jaya last November were supposed to take the stand today to provide testimony on what they saw on the night Adib sustained injuries that eventually led to his death.
The inquest was ordered as there were no conclusive findings in the probe into how Adib was injured during the riots on November 27 and 28 last year.
Police investigations revealed that there could be two possibilities as to what caused the 24-year-old’s death: either he was beaten by a mob or was run over by a fire engine.
Adib was hospitalised for three weeks and despite regaining consciousness and showing signs of recovery, he died on December 17 from lung failure. – February 28, 2019.
