VOTER sentiment and support for Barisan Nasional in Semenyih are very much at the same levels as during the Cameron Highlands by-election, which the pact won last month, said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Taking time off from his leave to campaign for BN for the Semenyih polls, Zahid said he hopes the positive sentiment will translate into votes come polling day on March 2.

“I sense the same feeling we felt in Cameron Highlands in Semenyih as well. I believe Semenyih voters will not think as they did during the last general election (when they voted for Pakatan Harapan),” he said at Surau An Nur in Taman Pelangi, Semenyih, last night.

“This time, it feels different, and I hope this feeling will translate into votes for us on March 2,” said the former deputy prime minister.

Earlier yesterday, Zahid led a group of 50 motorcyclists riding into Semenyih before performing prayers at the surau with locals.

The by-election will see a four-cornered fight between BN’s Zakaria Hanapi, Mohd Aiman Zainali (PH), Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul (Parti Sosialis Malaysia) and Kuan Chee Heng (independent).

It is being held following the death of assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor of Bersatu on January 11. He was also Aiman’s father-in-law.

BN retained Cameron Highlands despite PH going into the polls as the favourite. BN had named a direct candidate from the Orang Asli community. – February 24, 2019.
