CARS and RM49,000 were seized from the home of former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng by police’s Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Prevention (AMLA) unit.

They seized a Toyota Alphard, a Toyota Prius, and a BMW from Ng’s home in Damansara Heights on Tuesday morning.

The source from the AMLA unit said the raid is in connection with police investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

Ng was employed at Goldman Sachs when it arranged the issuance of US$6.5 billion in 1MDB bonds in 2012 and 2013.

He now faces charges in both Malaysia and the US over 1MDB.

In the US, he is charged with another former Goldman banker, Tim Leissner, and wanted businessman Low Taek Jho, for allegedly laundering billions of dollars from 1MDB, and bribing various Malaysian and Abu Dhabi officials.

In Malaysia, Ng is charged with abetting the investment bank to issue the 1MDB bonds by omitting material information and publishing untrue statements.

The 47-year-old was arrested on November 1 last year based on a warrant for his arrest from the US government.

He initially fought his extradition to the US but on February 15 agreed in order to face his criminal charges there.

Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, however, said Ng would only be extradited after his case in the Malaysian courts is completed. – February 22, 2019.
