BUSINESSMAN Low Taek Jho is not Pakatan Harapan’s figment of imagination. He is real and efforts are ongoing to capture him, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin told a gathering in Semenyih, Selangor, last night.
Muhyiddin was responding to allegations from Barisan Nasional that Low, or popularly known as Jho Low, is being used by PH to amplify the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
They said this is the reason the alleged fugitive businessman could not be found.
Speaking to voters in Semenyih last night in the run-up to the by-election on March 2, Muhyiddin said Putrajaya is aware of Low’s whereabouts but has yet to seal any cooperation to allow for his extradition.
Muhyiddin’s ministry is still negotiating with a foreign nation to arrange for Low’s extradition to face charges of embezzlement in the 1MDB scandal.
“We have had negotiations but until now, we have not gotten anything, but we know Jho Low’s location.
“We can’t bring him back or detain him unless that country gives us its cooperation,” said Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president.
Last year, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Putrajaya is working to bring Low back from China where he is believed to be currently residing.
On January 13, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Malaysian police held a meeting with the authorities in China to help find the Penang businessman.
Without divulging details of the meeting, Fuzi said Low has yet to be found and efforts to locate him are still underway. – February 22, 2019.
