THE 11th witness in the inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was a no-show at the Shah Alam coroners’ court today.
The inquest was supposed to start at 10am but the 11th witness, who was at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor, when riots broke out there last November, could not be present.
DPP Hamdan Hamzah said Nassaruddin Abdullah, 23, a technician at YTL had to deal with a family emergency.
“The witness can’t attend because his father met with an accident this morning and he is attending to him,” he told the court.
Nassaruddin was at the coroners’ court yesterday to take the stand but the court adjourned for the day after hearing from the ninth witness, R. Narresh and the 10th witness, medical assistant Hafizan Nordin.
Naresh was responsible for getting Adib to the hospital while Hafizan drove the 24-year-old to a medical centre on November 27.
Adib died on December 17 from lung injuries sustained during the riots.
Police investigations revealed that there could be two possibilities as to what caused his death: either he was beaten by a mob or run over by a fire engine.
The inquest will continue at 2.30pm with the 12th witness. – February 19, 2019.
