PARTI Warisan Sabah leaders will have more to worry than Sabah Umno when Bersatu sets foot in the state, said Bung Moktar Radin today.
The Sabah Umno chief dismissed Bersatu’s plan to enter the state and its impact on his party.
“It’s a good move for them (Bersatu), but it does not concern Umno. Maybe for others, especially Warisan.
Bung Moktar said Umno’s arrival in Sabah in the 90’s had decimated the then ruling party Parti Bersatu Sabah and its role in the state government.
Earlier, Dr Mahathir announced Bersatu will expand to Sabah after the matter had been decided during the Bersatu supreme council meeting today.
The move, he said, was not to oppose the Warisan-led state government and Sabah Chief minister Mohd Shafie Apdal, but to complement and strengthen them.
The decision came following the mass exodus of Sabah Umno members, including nine State reps and five MPs on December 12 last year.
Bung Moktar sees the exodus as the end of further crossovers of Umno members.
Last week, Sabah Umno finally completed the restructuring of the party following the departure of many senior leaders and is discussing with central Umno leaders over the extent of the party’s autonomy.
Sabah Umno has been given administrative autonomy and is allowed to make its own decisions in administration and memberships.
“With the autonomy from Umno in KL, I don’t see Bersatu could ever be a threat to Sabah Umno,” he said.
Bung Moktar also said it is still uncertain if Bersatu will be accepted in Sabah, given that Sabahans blame Dr Mahathir over his alleged role in the “Projek IC”.
Projek IC is a name given to the controversial citizenship for vote project targeted at illegal immigrants in Sabah. – February 15, 2019.
