AMANAH does not feel threatened by the number of MPs flocking to its Pakatan Harapan (PH) partner Bersatu, its president Mohamad Sabu said.
He said it is far more important to strengthen PH than to count the number of MPs in each component party.
“We are not worried. What’s more important is that the parties strengthen PH together,” said Mohamad.
“It is also important for PH to win and strengthen support among the Malays in Peninsular Malaysia.
“Furthermore, I have not heard the PH chairman (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) promising any position to the MPs who have joined his party,” the Defence Minister said in Kota Kinabalu today.
Mohamad was responding to news that six MPs from Umno had joined Bersatu earlier today.
The six are Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu), Hamzah Zainuddin (Larut), Ikmal Hisham (Tanah Merah), Shahbudin Yahaya (Tasek Gelugor), Mohd Faisah Mohd Fakeh (Sabak Bernam) and Latiff Ahmad (Mersing).
They received their certificates of membership from Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir in Putrajaya today.
A seventh MP, Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah), who left Umno for Bersatu last year, also received her membership certificate today.
Bersatu now has 22 seats in parliament, while Amanah has 11.
Mohamad was holding a session in his capacity as Amanah president at the Dewan Perkumpulan Wanita in Sembulan today.
Mohamad today received 3,000 new membership applications for Sabah Amanah, which has 10 divisions in the state. – February 12, 2019.
