DISCUSSIONS on the replacement for the inspector-general of police and his deputy will be held soon with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin said both individuals are expected to retire soon.
“We will decide later on the replacement for both important posts in the police force.
“I will discuss with Dr Mahathir soon because their retirement is approaching,” he told reporters in Semenyih today.
It is learnt that IGP Mohamad Fuzi Harun will retire in May and his deputy Noor Rashid Ibrahim is due to retire in March.
Noor Rashid was supposed to retire on March 17 last year but his term was extended for another year.
Muhyiddin also said his ministry will look into solutions for drug-related activities among students.
He said new drugs are emerging, especially among the youth.
“This trend is definitely a concern. New drugs are spreading, also involving students under 18 years’ old.
“We have a plan to overcome this problem, but what is important is the parents’ responsibility to their children,” he added.
Yesterday, Fuzi said misdemeanours such as truancy, vandalism, and bullying among students now pale in comparison to violent crimes, like buying and selling drugs, sexual misconduct, gangsterism, and militancy.
He said statistics on drug-related activities showed 467 arrests involving students in 2017, and the number rose to 577 last year. – February 9, 2019.
