THE Sarawak government is offering a RM300 air ticket subsidy to students from the state to fly home for festivals of their choice.

The subsidy is available to Sarawak students in tertiary institutions in the peninsula, Sabah and Labuan.

However, the benefit is limited to only two festival-related flights per year, Tupong assemblyman and Sarawak Volunteers adviser Fazzruddin Abdul Rahman said in a statement.

Fazzruddin said Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg yesterday gave the approval to subsidise students’ air fares home for the major festivals, which would help ease their financial burden.

The subsidy will be implemented next week for those who would like to return home for the Chinese New Year.

The students had requested from the chief minister for travel assistance at last October’s Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2018 gathering in Kuala Lumpur.

To claim their subsidy, the students will need to provide proof of their air ticket, boarding pass and student verification letter from their university.

Fazzruddin said the full terms and conditions of the subsidy can be found at the Sarawak Volunteers Facebook page. – January 31, 2019.
