MALAYSIA will receive a part of the money stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) this year, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Lim said that although the payment would not be a large amount, it would be the first payment to be made to the country.
“It’s not billions, it’s not a large amount but at least it’s a beginning.
“This is good news. We hope follow-up payments will be made to Malaysia, where we can get back the money stolen from 1MDB,” he told reporters today.
He, however, refused to elaborate on any details of the payment.
Lim then urged the opposition political parties to return the money they may have received from the sovereign wealth fund.
He said the biggest amount received by an opposition party was hundred billions of ringgit while another one received RM16.5 million. However, he did not mention any names.
“We hope the political parties can return the money to the government,” he said.
Lim said the government will retrieve the money from the party that received the most amount to the party that received the least.
He added the government may take legal action if the parties failed to pay back the amount to the government. – January 30, 2019.
