A HEARING on a leave application by former prime minister Najib Razak to challenge the appointment of Gopal Sri Ram as lead prosecutor for his criminal cases has been postponed.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court’s appellate and special powers division has not set a new date for application to be heard.
Najib’s lawyers had filed an application for a judicial review to challenge the appointment of Sri Ram for Najib’s corruption and money-laundering charges linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
Sri Ram, a retired federal court judge, was appointed senior deputy public prosecutor on August 31 last year.
Sri Ram is acting as fiat prosecutor against Najib in the 39 charges related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd, its subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd, the government settlement with International Petroleum Investment Company and the alleged alteration of the 1MDB audit report.
Sri Ram is also acting against Najib’s lead counsel Shafee Abdullah in a money-laundering case involving RM9.5 million.
Last year, Najib has also filed a complimentary notice of motion to disqualify Sri Ram at the high court’s criminal division.
