Floods hit five Sabah districts, 2,555 people displaced

THE number of Sabah flood victims in five affected districts have risen to 2,555 people.

State secretary cum Disaster Management Committee chairman Hasim Paijan said 17 temporary shelters are now open to place some 549 victims.

He expects the number of victims to increase.

Of the five districts, Kota Marudu is the worst affected. To date, 12 shelters have been opened to place 2,470 victims.

Some 22 people were recorded in Kota Belud and are presently taking shelter at a local hall.

“For Pitas, two shelters have opened with 27 victims,” said Hashim who visited Dewan Tun Said Community Hall in Kota Belud earlier today.

In Sipitang, 12 flood victims from three families had to be evacuated to a nearby shelter. – January 27, 2019.
