TWO directors and an employee of an international company have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly abusing their positions to seek monetary gain from the purchase of a machine worth RM1.88 million.
MACC will apply for the trio’s remand tomorrow.
A source told The Malaysian Insight that the directors, one of whom is in his 50s and has the “Datuk” title, and the employee, a woman in her 30s, were arrested at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
“The arrests were made to facilitate investigations into abuse of power and graft involving the purchase of a machine that produces air-conditioning components worth RM1.88 million.
“The suspects had sought a cut from the sale of the machine, which their company paid for, from the agent who sold it to them.”
The suspects had used company funds to buy the machine from the US, and approached the agent seeking a cut.
The company, headquartered in Bangi, Selangor, was part of the klia2, Istana Budaya, Pavilion mall, National Science Centre, Singapore Parliament and Hong Kong International Airport projects. – January 22, 2019.
