EFFORTS to bring home about 52 Malaysians linked to Islamic State (IS) terrorism activities in Syria have yet to yield results, said Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun today.

Since the return of a Terengganu-born woman named Aisyah, her daughter, 5, and son, 2, from Syria on October 6, family members of other Malaysians in Syria had sought the help of police.

However, he said Syria’s response at present was “unclear”.

Fuzi said Malaysian police were working with Turkish authorities as Turkey is commonly used as a transit point for Malaysians entering Syria.

“The Turkish authorities have been very helpful.”

However, Fuzi said the location of these Malaysians in Syria was not known.

“Those who want to return home should contact their families back here in Malaysia or our contacts there.

“We will facilitate their return if they serious about coming home,” he said at a press conference in Kota Kinabalu today.

On whether the police would turn to Aisyah for help, Fuzi said her contacts were limited as she was not involved with IS fighters, like her husband who died during battle.

On Aisyah’s condition, he said she was doing well and undergoing three stages of rehabilitation with the authorities. – January 22, 2019.
