THE Pakatan Harapan government should give RM1 billion to help Felda and prove it can manage the land development agency better than the Barisan Nasional administration, said former prime minister Najib Razak.
This was among three challenges that Najib threw down to the seven-month old government as he stumps for BN to win the crucial Felda vote in the Cameron Highlands parliamentary by-election later this month.
The three Felda settlements of Sg Koyan in the Jelai area provide about 2,800 votes and have comprised a traditional BN and Umno fortress. Jelai is a state constituency in Cameron Highlands represented by Pahang menteri besar and BN state chairman Wan Rosdi Wan Ismail.
“If I was still the prime minister, I would give Felda RM1 billion. What’s the problem?” Najib said in his speech to settlers and BN supporters in Felda Sg Koyan Tiga in Jelai, Cameron Highlands today.
“It’s our agency. It’s because the government did not give Felda money that it had to go out and get loans for its replanting schemes. This is my challenge to the new government.”
The second challenge Najib gave the new administration was to use its relations with China and India to persuade the two countries to buy more palm oil, clearing the glut in the Malaysian market and allowing world prices to go up again. – January 18, 2019.
