THE inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim will begin on February 11 and will proceed for 30 working days, the Shah Alam Coroner’s Court decided today.

Lawyer for Adib’s family, Mohd Kamaruzaman A Wahab, also told reporters after case management today that 30 witnesses will be called, including several firemen.

Adib’s family maintains that the 24-year-old fireman died as a result of being assaulted, while others alleged he was run over by a reversing fire lorry.

Inquest dates have been set as February 11 to 28, March 1, 4, 5, 19 to 29 and April 1 to 11.

The inquest will be led by deputy public prosecutor Hamdan Hamzah who will call six expert witnesses, including doctors who attended to Adib’s injuries and a forensics specialist who carried out the post-mortem.

The police investigating officers charged with Adib’s case will also testify.

Coronor Rofiah Mohamad granted a request by lawyer Mansoor Saat to hold watching brief for the Human Rights Commission.

She then set the case for mention on January 31, where documents will be made available to the family’s five lawyers, led by Kamaruzaman.

“We believe he was beaten up, which led to his death,” Kamaruzaman told reporters outside the court.

“So far, we don’t have the details from the forensics report. We will assist the court by calling up witnesses and handing in documents.”

Adib’s family were not present today.

Eight firemen are expected to testify, along with two commanders from the Subang Jaya fire station to which Adib was attached. – January 18, 2019.
