POLICE will be questioning the former chief executive officer of the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) over alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to at least RM100 million.

Federal police told The Malaysian Insight several HRDF personnel have already had their statements recorded and former CEO Vignaesvaran Jeyandran is next.

Vignaesvaran resigned as HRDF CEO in June last year, a month after Pakatan Harapan won federal power in the general election.

Acting Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said several HRDF personnel have been questioned since the office was raided on January 11. There have been no arrests so far.

“Their former CEO will be called up soon. For now we are taking the statements of his staff but no arrest has been made,” Saiful said, adding the investigation is classified as criminal breach of trust.

“We are currently going through all the documents that were seized in the raid. The investigations will take time.”

Meanwhile, a source said HRDF was operating as usual despite the police raid and questioning.

The raid came about after two police reports were lodged for alleged abuse of power and corruption committed by the company’s former board of directors. HRDF is an agency under the Human Resources Ministry.

Minister M. Kulasegaran had revealed that a high-ranking HRDF officer had misused RM100 million to RM300 million of the company’s funds.

Kulasegaran has set up an independent governance oversight committee of five to probe the allegations. – January 17, 2019.
