TABUNG Haji depositors still have confidence in the pilgrims’ fund despite the recent spate of reports of mismanagement, said chief executive officer and group managing director Zukri Samat.
The agency registered an increase of RM1 billion in deposits as of December 2018 despite an RM4.1 billion deficit in its 2017 financial year.
“Withdrawals of deposits were RM73.5 billion in December 2018 but at the same time, RM74.5 billion of new deposits were recorded,” he said at a press conference at the TH headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Last year, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of religious affairs Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the distribution of hibah from 2014 to 2017 contravened the Tabung Haji Act 1995, causing the agency to experience a deficit of RM4.1 billion.
Then TH chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim denied the matter. – January 15, 2019.
