MUHYIDDIN Yassin has reiterated Putrajaya’s commitment to amend or scrap draconian laws, which Pakatan Harapan pledged in its manifesto.

The home minister said among them are the Sedition Act 1948, Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 and several other security laws.

The ministry is engaging stakeholder, including human rights group Suaram, the Malaysian Bar and Human Rights Commission (Suhakam), he said.

“Give us some time and be patient. In fact, today I have full briefing by ministry officials to amend and abolish some of the acts I have mentioned in my speeches, including Sosma, Sedition Act and a few others,” he told reporters today after the ministry’s monthly assembly this morning

Muhyiddin urged stakeholders not to assume anything about Putrajaya’s plans for the acts.

“I think what is important now is for everyone to wait until the whole process of drafting, amending is completed.” – January 14, 2019.
