DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Barisan Nasional (BN) is no longer in power at the federal level and the Pahang government’s resources is limited.

“BN is more focused on fixing the problems brought about by the 1MDB scandal. The state government (of Pahang) needs the help of the federal government, as the finance minister, of course, I would know this,” Lim said at the launch of the of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Cameron Highlands by-election campaign headquarters in Brinchang Square tonight.

He urged the people to remember that Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail is also being investigated for graft which had triggered the Cameron Highlands by-election, slated for January 26.

“The Cameron Highland by-election is because of bribery, and the person who was involved was Wan Rosdy himself, we will keep a close eye on investigations which are going on,” he said.

Lim also jabbed at MCA for allegedly receiving RM16.5 million from 1MDB.

“MCA had gotten 1MDB money and cannot clarify the source of the money, and if they have to pay back the RM16.5 million, how are they to help the people?” he said.

Lim told the crowd that it was time for the people of Pahang to follow suit with the rest of Malaysia in voting for Pakatan Harapan’s M. Manogaran with Cameron Highlands as the first stepping stone for PH to win the state at the next general election.

“This time (is) Cameron’s chance to change so that a chance is given to people. If we win in Cameron Highlands, then we have a good future to win in the state.” he said.

The by-election in Cameron Highlands was triggered after the election court nullified the 14th general election result for the parliamentary seat when evidence of corruption to induce constituents to vote for Barisan Nasional surfaced last year.

MIC candidate C. Sivarraajh, who won the five-cornered fight with 10,307 votes, only had a slim 597-vote majority over DAP’s candidate Manogaran (9,710).

In that election, PAS garnered 3,587 votes, PSM (680) and Berjasa (81). – January 10, 2019.

  • With the unhealthy political manoeuvres after GE14, esp in PKR & BERSATU, there is great deal of lost trust in PH as it looks its no different from BN. Voters may swing to Independent to send the message, that Malaysians are not happy
