ENTERTAINMENT outlets in Kuala Lumpur that are licensed to close in the early hours of the morning can continue to do so, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad said in a statement today.
Khalid said the closing time for entertainment outlets in the city and its outskirts will remain unchanged following the ministry’s meeting with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and KL lawmakers on Tuesday.
There are 672 entertainment outlets in Kuala Lumpur, of which 173 close between 3am and 5am and are situated in both the suburbs and certain outlying areas, Khalid said.
The remainder close at 12am, 1am, or 2am, depending on the outlet’s category and location, he said.
Khalid said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will issue warning letters if businesses were found to be involved in drug abuse or prostitution.
Repeat offenders will face premise closures or seizure of goods and equipment.
Khalid said the ministry will attempt to persuade 233 businesses that are allowed to operate until 2am, to close at 1am.
A group representing over 100 entertainment outlets owners had urged Khalid and DBKL to reconsider the move after he announced that all entertainment outlets must close at 1am, The Star reported. – January 10, 2019.
