IT was Umno, and not the Malays, who have lost power after the May 9 general election, said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said Umno’s allegations that the Malays have lost power was because they feared their past wrongdoings would be unveiled and their leaders brought to court.
“Umno is still singing a song of sorrow that the Malays have lost power under the administration of the Pakatan Harapan government.
“The Malays should be thankful for Umno’s defeat, because now their leaders no longer have any power to cover up all their faults and frauds,” he added.
He was referring to several Umno leaders who have been investigated for and charged with corruption, malpractice, abuse of power and money laundering, including in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.
Former prime minister Najib Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor are now facing various charges and will be tried in February.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamid is also facing 47 charges for various crimes in court while several Umno leaders are being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
Muhyiddin also reminded the Malays that the position Islam will not be affected just because PH is now in power.
He also assured that the Bumiputera agenda, to raise those who are still sidelined in the socio-economic field, would not be neglected.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also reminded Bersatu members that they are now victorious and in power because the party was part of PH, just like PKR, DAP and Amanah.
“We cannot be alone in this struggle, it is impossible for us to administer the country only with our party’s strengths.
“It’s time for us to rebuild Malaysia. It’s time for us to lay down the promise to the people.
“Do not go against each other but unite together,” he said.
He also reminded Bersatu members that their struggle does not end after winning the general election as there are still many other things to do to fulfill the people’s mandate.
He said that the powers and mandates given are to be fulfilled, and not to be boastful about.
Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad is scheduled to open the assembly and deliver his keynote address tomorrow night. – December 28, 2018.
