BERSATU has yet to decide if they will accept any Umno leaders who have left the party, said Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Bersatu president said that none of the applications have been approved as it will have to go through a “cooling off period”.
“Even if they (Umno leaders) hold any positions they will still have to go through the vetting process.
Umno to date has lost 17 parliamentarians, leaving the former Barisan Nasional lynchpin party with 37 out of the 54 federal seats it had won in GE14.
The parliamentarians who have declared themselves as independents are expected to join Bersatu eventually.
Muhyiddin also said those who are planning to join must be in line with the party’s struggle.
Former Umno leader Rahim Thamby Chik has also submitted his application to join Bersatu.
Last week, Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan said their elected representatives are comfortable with the current leadership and there will be no more defections.
He said that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi taking leave from his duties will stop the departures of members of Parliament and state assemblymen.
Mohamad said their main focus now is to strengthen the party and come up with strategies for the 15th general election.
He said they will have to rearrange and restructure Umno in order to strengthen the party. – December 28, 2018.
