RADIO station BFM89.9 is waiting for external investigators to finish their probe into allegations of sexual harassment.

Meera Sivasothy, a presenter at the station and the person in charge of handling queries about the case, refused to comment further on the issue.

“I can’t quite say anything at the moment because I’m not in the know.

“We are waiting for investigations by external investigators and they have not come back to us,” she said when contacted by The Malaysian Insight.

She also said no timeframe was given by the external investigators as to when the probe would conclude.

Early this month, the radio station appointed third-party investigators to look into claims of sexual harassment after an anonymous email was sent to several media outlets.

BFM founder Malek Ali said the employees involved have taken “a leave of absence”.

The email was written by an individual who claimed to be a female employee at the radio station.

She said the management was covering up cases of sexual harassment at the workplace.

The allegations in the email included the use of inappropriate language in conversations and text messages. A rape was also alleged.

Following the claims, the Institute of Journalists Malaysia said the case highlighted the need for stronger laws on sexual harassment. – December 21, 2018.
