THE failure to fulfill promises made in the 14th general election manifesto will cause the people to reject the government in the next general election, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“It is important that the government gain the people’s trust and fulfill its election manifesto.

“If the people no longer trust the government, even the strongest administration will fall,” he said in his keynote address at the Management Institute of Malaysia at Hotel Istana tonight.

Dr Mahathir said the government is aware that many of Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) manifesto promises remain unfulfilled and the coalition views the matter seriously.

He said the manifesto made by PH before GE14 was to pressure Barisan Nasional without realising that it would be difficult to implement if the coalition wins the election.

“Good luck or otherwise, we won and now we have to work doubly hard to implement the promises concerned.

“Of course, it will sometimes be difficult to make good on them, but whether it’s difficult or not, we must show we are working as hard as we can to fulfill them,” the Langkawi MP said.

The prime minister had previously said the government is prepared to shoulder all responsibility if it failed to implement the promises contained in the PH manifesto.

He said this is because the government realised that there are many obstacles that made implementing the promises difficult. – December 19, 2018.
