AHMAD Zahid Hamidi told Ronald Kiandee to resign as Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman as he was appointed at the discretion of the opposition leader.

The Umno president said that the Beluran MP must give up the post immediately.

Zahid noted that under the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, the opposition leader is given the right to choose who will head the PAC.

“What he says is his right. We refer to what is promised by the current government. If he is still with us (the opposition), we will uphold it,” he said at a press conference at Umno headquarters today.

Ronald today had said he would not relinquish his role as PAC chairman even though he had left Umno, and that his position is subject to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decision.

Zahid said he already has begun discussions with other opposition MPs on Ronald’s replacement as PAC chairman.

“We in the opposition will identify potential candidates. We will send a notice to the Dewan Rakyat speaker regarding the position,” he said. – December 12, 2018.
