SARAWAK rep Wong King Wei today lodged six police reports over “highly slanderous and defamatory” allegations made against him in relation to the sale of a 2ha plot of mixed-zone land in Batu Kawa.
The reports are against the Facebook accounts of Stand up Sarawakians, renrenwanbao.com and one Ryan Lo for sharing allegedly defamatory posts to the Official Group for Kuching Chit Chat page.
Wong, who is DAP’s Padungan assemblyman and a lawyer by profession, said a political rival is behind the online attacks, which have gone on for a year.
He is accused of being part of a group of eight lawyers who had worked for a “small businessman” in the fraudulent sale of the land in question.
The group had allegedly submitted fake documents to the court, leading to an eviction order being issued against two siblings and their families, who were living in a house on the land, and the demolition of the home.
A post by the renrenwanbao.com Facebook account carried the headline “Demolish” and the words “YB Wong King Wei apply for a Court Order to demolish the house”. It was accompanied by pictures of what appeared to be the razed house.
A post alleged that “the real masterminds” were “eight tricky lawyers who worked together”.
Wong said there are also posts claiming that he had gotten rich from the land sale.
“They said I have unjustifiable wealth, properties valued at millions of ringgit, and cars in the millions of ringgit,” he told reporters after lodging the reports and meeting Kuching police chief Ng Ah Lek to inquire about the status of a similar report he had made in August.
He said it is now up to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to find out who the Facebook account holders are.
“I lodged the reports today because everybody has to be responsible for what they write and share.
“They accused me of being involved in money laundering. These are very serious allegations against me.”
He said the claims are baseless, and “there is no evidence I was involved”. – December 10, 2018.
