MINISTER in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy said he had no assets to declare to the anti-graft authorities as he had used most of his wealth to help the poor.
Waytha Moorthy, who is one of six ministers, yet to declared their assets on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s website, said this was why he only declared his income, which is stated as RM48,736.48 a month on the website.
“I have no assets. When filling the form, I filled everything else, such as my income, but I have no assets.
“People have been asking me as news that I did not declare my assets have been reported in the news two or three times, so I told my office to inform MACC to note that I have stated that I do not have any asset,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
“All my life, I have been an activist, so all my earnings (as a lawyer) were spent on helping the Indian poor. So I have no access to funds to acquire any asset.”
Besides Waytha Moorthy, other cabinet members whose assets have not been declared on the MACC website are Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Foreign Affairs Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, de facto Law Minister Liew Vui Keong, Tourism Minister Mohamaddin Ketapi and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Steven Sim.
A check on the site today, however, showed that it had been updated to include Wan Azizah’s assets, which are RM1.14 million.
Sim’s filing had also been updated to show RM329,000 in assets.
Saifuddin previously said he had declared his assets but the information had yet to be updated on the website.
Liew also told The Malaysian Insight that he already declared his assets, too.
This leaves Mohamaddin, who has yet to respond to media queries as to why his assets were not stated on the website. – December 10, 2018.
