ALL students accepted at state-linked International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-Cats) are automatically eligible for a study loan from the Sarawak government, starting the next new college year.

Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg, who made the announcement today at the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) and i-Cats 21st joint convocation at the Borneo Convention Centre, said the loan would be disbursed via the Sarawak Foundation which he chairs.

“Today, in recognition of the important role of human capital in the development of the state, I have decided that every student who enrols in i-Cats will be given loans directly from the state government through the Sarawak Foundation.

“This means every student who is accepted at i-Cats, whether for a diploma or a degree course will be provided with the loan.

“In other words, you don’t have to (worry about the) difficulty (of getting) sponsorship. The moment you are admitted into i-Cats, the Sarawak government through Yayasan Sarawak will give you (the student) a loan immediately,” the chief minister said.

The college in Kuching is wholly owned by PPKS Ilmu Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of PPKS.  It offers courses in business administration, engineering, information technology, nursing, plantation management, and tourism. – December 6, 2018.
