FOUR more individuals, among others yet to be announced, will be called to assist the Public Accounts Committee with its investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd audit report, said Ronald Kiandee.
The PAC chairman said among the individuals to be called are former chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa, former attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Dzulkifli Ahmad, and former president and chief executive officer of 1MDB Arul Kanda Kandasamy.
Kiandee did not deny the possibility of former prime minister Najib Razak being called by the PAC.
“Yes, a few names have been identified, including the previous audit team (during former auditor-general Ambrin Buang’s tenure),” he told reporters after the proceeding today.
Kiandee said Ambrin had proposed up to six names from the audit team to be called in for the investigation.
When asked about the timeline for the proceeding, Kiandee said it will resume until next year.
He however said he hoped for it to conclude before the next Parliament sitting to allow for the summary of the proceedings to be tabled in Parliament.
On today’s session with Ambrin, Kiandee said the former auditor-general will be called again to give more statements.
“A lot of information was given. From this information, PAC is of the view that it should call Tan Sri (Ambrin) again along with the audit team that audited 1MDB,” he said.
Kiandee said the proceeding with Ambrin today involved discussions on whether the 1MDB audit report was amended or not.
Ambrin however refused to speak to the media after the session was done at 4pm just now.
“No comment, ask the chairman,” he said.
Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad is scheduled to be called in to give her statements tomorrow, followed by former director of the National Audit Sector Saadatul Nafisah on December 6.
In her statement issued last month, Madinah confirmed that former prime minister Najib Razak had summoned Ambrin on February 22, 2016, and instructed that certain parts of the report be expunged. – December 4, 2018.
