THE Sabah PKR leadership tussle will only end when party president Anwar Ibrahim visits the state, likely in the middle of the month.
The Port Dickson MP, who is currently focusing on his constituency, is expected to soon resolve issues plaguing PKR following the end of the party’s problematic polls last month.
“He just returned from Turkey two days ago, and will soon embark on a trip to all states to appoint the state leadership.
“He will begin in the peninsula, and then head to Sabah, and finally, Sarawak,” said a Sabah PKR Youth leader on condition of anonymity.
The source said Anwar will likely arrive in Sabah in mid-December, and call for a meeting of 26 division chiefs.
Sabah PKR has 25 divisions, and will include Labuan soon.
It is said that the group aligned with deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali plans to take over the post of state PKR chief.
Currently, Sabah PKR is led by Christina Liew, a member of the faction backing Rafizi Ramli, who had challenged Azmin for the party’s No. 2 post.
The source said the meeting with Anwar will see the president questioning the division chiefs on their choice of Sabah PKR chairman.
“There will be no immediate decision because Anwar needs to consult the PKR political bureau first.”
However, Anwar has the authority to override any proposal or decision, added the source.
The Azmin camp has proposed Tawau division chief Kong Hon Ming for the state PKR’s top post, and all proposed names are expected to be handed over to Anwar during his Sabah visit.
Liew has said she is not worried by any challenge she might face, and that she will leave the decision to Anwar.
The Azmin and Rafizi camps have both claimed that they have the majority to form the state PKR leadership. – December 1, 2018.
