THERE is no autonomy for Sabah PKR if it’s the central top leaders who get to decide who becomes the state chief, said PKR Supreme Council member Rahimah Majid today.

She said the party had to honour the Kuching Declaration ratified in 2012.

The Kuching Declaration was adopted by the party and signed by Anwar Ibrahim as a pledge to honour the Malaysia Agreement 1963 if they win the polls.

“This means the appointment of the state chief is not the prerogative of the president.

“In 2016, when former PKR chief Lajim Ukin quit, Anwar came to Sabah and asked all the divisional chiefs on who they wanted as the next state chief.

“At that time, everyone chose Christina Liew instead of Sepanggar chief Dr Roland Chia,” she said.

Rahimah who is also Kudat PKR chief, was the one who called for a meeting to discuss the change of the Sabah PKR leadership last Saturday.

She is part of the party faction which supports deputy president Azmin Ali.

According to her, her camp had the support of 15 of the 26 Sabah and Labuan division chiefs which is enough to remove Liew and his council members.

Rahimah said they had named Tawau division chief Kong Hon Ming as the new state chief.

Earlier, Liew told reporters she was leaving it up to the top central leaders to decide who will be the next state PKR chief.

Liew claimed she was not aware of a rival group trying to oust her, saying it was just hearsay. – November 29, 2018.
