SABAH PKR chief Christina Liew is not worried about attempts by a rival faction to overthrow her.

She said there was nothing unusual about the rebels, saying that the same group had been trying to do the same every three years.

“I’ve been with Sabah PKR for 20 over years and they have been doing it as long as I could remember, and it’s every three years,” said Liew.

The Sabah deputy chief minister cum state tourism, culture and environment minister said this when met at the launching of the Sabah community-based tourism exhibition at a shopping complex in Kota Kinabalu, today.

A rival group aligned to PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali in Sabah are claiming that they have the support of 15 division chiefs to oust Liew from the state PKR chief post.

There are 25 PKR divisions in Sabah, plus one in Labuan.

The group also claimed to have the locus standi to call for a divisional chief’s meeting as the Kudat chief Rahimah Majid is a member of the central PKR supreme council.

The group in a meeting held last Saturday has nominated Tawau chief Kong Hon Ming as the new state chief and will forward his name to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim when he returns from his overseas trip.

Liew was not invited to the meeting and said she was not aware of the meeting and therefore, whatever the rival group were talking about were “mere hearsay”.

She also said she was not calling for any meeting for all the 26 divisional chiefs anytime soon.

“Even if I do call for a meeting, it will not be about the state chief’s position but will look into how the party can move forward and look at ways to help the people,” said Liew, adding that she is leaving it to PKR’s top leadership and Anwar to decide on the state chief post. – November 29, 2018.
