UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a veiled reference to P. Waytha Moorthy, said the latter should not abuse his position and provoke people of other religions following a riot at a Subang Jaya temple yesterday.
Without mentioning Waytha Moorthy’s name, Zahid alluded to the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of unity and social well-being, who has been making statements on behalf of Putrajaya on the issue.
Zahid said no party should be a “hero” for a specific religion, and that everyone should abide by the law.
“In this matter, every party should abide by the legal system and rules, and at the same time, every religion should respect one another.
“There should not be any party that feels like a hero to a specific religion, what more, if the person holds the unity portfolio.
“Don’t let the position be a place where one causes provocation towards a specific religion or others,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
The 147-year-old Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ25 came under attack in the wee hours after masked men stormed the house of worship.
Waytha Moorthy then headed a press conference by Pakatan Harapan ministers and deputy ministers in Parliament, where he blamed police for their delayed response to the incident.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun has denied claims that his men had been slow to act.
He said police arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving a call on the temple intrusion, which happened at 2.40am.
Zahid today said the authorities, including police, should not be blamed. – November 27, 2018.

The question is who will benefit from racial disharmony? The incident has the signature of UMNO all over it as UMNO as, we have seen in the past, have used gangsters in all their racial provocations ranging from lowyat incident to cowheads, threats to the former Penang Chief Ministers, etc. Zahid stands out in this respect as he often gloated about his good connections with Tiga Line, a malay NGO and other underworlds. It is mentioned that some of the ICs that were left behind belonged to malay thugs. The key person to all this is the person who was constantly taking instructions from somebody. It is very easy for the police to identify through the phone record who is that person. Lets hope the police can get to the bottom of this and transparent about their findings.
I pray for the innocent fireman who was caught in the middle of all this for a safe and speedy recovery.
