PETRONAS has awarded two contracts totalling RM479 million to engineering firm Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation for work related to its gas development projects offshore Sarawak.

The contracts are for wellhead platforms at its Bokor phase 3 redevelopment and a wellhead platform and a jacket at the Anjung gas development projects.

The Bokor contract package of RM290 million, awarded on April 12, was for the provision of front-end engineering design (FEED) and engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) of three wellhead platforms at the oil field which is located within the Baram Delta in the South China Sea some 45km from Lutong in Miri.

The wellhead platforms are projected to be installed in the first quarter of 2019.

The main objectives of the project, under the Baram Delta enhanced oil recovery (EOR) production-sharing contract (PSC), are to develop additional reserves and to achieve the first injection by 2020.

The PSC is operated by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd in partnership with Sarawak Shell Bhd.

The completion date for the wellhead platforms has been set for July 27, 2019.

The second contract, worth RM189 million and awarded on April 25, was for the provision of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) of one wellhead platform and jacket for Anjung, 200km offshore from Bintulu in the Central Luconia gas field.

The onshore mechanical completion date for Anjung has been set for October 25, 2018.

The wellhead platform will also be installed in the first quarter of 2019 and first gas is expected in December.

The platforms and jacket will be fabricated at Brooke Dockyard’s yard in Dejingkat and at its new 24ha yard at the Demak Laut industrial area.

Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg and Petronas president and Group CEO Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin witnessed the signing of the contracts in Kuching today.

Wan Zulkiflee said the contracts were not an indication there is an upturn in the oil and gas industry.

He said the oil price in the world market “will be range bound for some more years” and because of that, the approach Petronas would take in exploration and development in the years ahead would be conservative and prudent. – August 18, 2017.
