SABAH PKR’s youth wing today lashed out at the attempt of some divisional leaders to oust the party’s state leadership led by Deputy Chief Minister Christina Liew.
It is understood up to 15 of the newly elected division chiefs will gather for a meeting today at a hotel Kota Kinabalu to push out Liew and her team.
The state’s youth wing coordinating secretary Razeef Rakimin confirmed to The Malaysian Insight that the rebel leaders will discuss booting out the present leadership.
“The party’s national congress has just concluded and saw Anwar Ibrahim becoming the party’s president.
“For Sabah, let Anwar decide who will take over the leadership in Sabah, and that includes if he wants to keep Liew as state chairman,” he said.
The meeting this afternoon will comprise those aligned with deputy president Mohd Azmin Ali.
Kudat PKR chief Rahimah Majid yesterday said 15 out of the 26 division chiefs, including the federal territory of Labuan chief, were with them.
Liew said she was unfazed by the group’s attempt, saying it was “old news”.
Asked whether she was aware of the meeting, she said: “No, idea” and that she will “let it be.”
The appointment of the state chief is decided by the party president, but due to the call for more autonomy for Sabah and Sarawak, the voice of the division chiefs must be heard by the party president before arriving to a decision.
Sources said several division chiefs aligned with Rafizi Ramli’s reformasi camp were also involved in the bid to oust Liew. – November 24, 2018.
