P. WAYTHA Moorthy’s push for the ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) is aimed at promoting the Hindu Rights Action Front’s (Hindraf) agenda, said Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Nizham Hamidi.
Nizham said all the noise the minister had been making was aimed at pushing Hindraf’s agenda.
“Waytha Moorthy was an activist before this. You can see that every approach he made once he became a minister is aimed at this agenda,” Nizham said today after making a police report at the Dang Wangi police station today over an interview he made in 2011.
He had said during the interview with a Dutch television station that Hindus and Indians were discriminated by the Barisan Nasional government of the time.
Nizham today demanded Waytha Moorthy’s resignation over what he said were racist remarks.
He said the remarks tarnished the country’s image and may lead to public unrest.
“We took an approach of making a police report and we ask that the government take action against any minister who has made a racist remark.”
“Those statements allow outsiders to take advantage of our nation’s situation,” Nizham said.

He said Umno Youth is not against the Indians and Chinese, or any other race.
Nizham said while Waytha Moorthy had his support, social media posts generally did not support the minister.
“If the (previous) government had marginalised the (minority) races, we would not have Robert Kuok, Ananda Krishnan, or Mokzani Mahathir. I believe the majority does not agree with Waythamoorthy,” he said.
Malay parties are opposing ICERD, claiming it will remove the special privileges enjoyed by the Malay/Bumiputera community as it champions equality.
Yesterday, an online petition addressed to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad collected over 114,000 signatures, demanding the sacking of Waytha Moorthy.
Waytha Moorthy also came under fire in Parliament yesterday after opposition MPs asked him to explain Malaysia’s plans to ratify ICERD.
His speech was cut short when chaos erupted after Barisan Nasional MPs shouted down all attempts to finish his text. – November 20, 2018.
