SABAH Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred Madius Tangau has lodged a police report over security concerns after a poster accusing him of playing a role in the issuance of MyKads to illegal immigrants in Sabah was spread via WhatsApp.
“I discovered the poster around 5pm yesterday. It is not the first time I was accused of giving ICs and so on. But this time it became more serious after it went viral,” said the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) president.
“I had received messages via WhatsApp and angry phone calls over the poster. The calls involved threats to my safety and family.
“I have lodged a police report so they can find whoever is responsible for the fake poster and obviously had caused the community at large to become angry,” said the Tuaran MP during a short conference after lodging the police report at the Penampang police station today.
Upko claims to be the target of political attacks following the party’s decision to ally with Parti Warisan Sabah and Pakatan Harapan after the May 9 polls, which resulted in the three parties getting the mandate to form the Sabah government.
One of the strongest allegations against the party, and the ruling Warisan-led state government, is their role in the issuance of Malaysian identity cards to members of Sabah’s large illegal migrant population. – November 20, 2018.
