THE Malaysian education syllabus will be revamped gradually in order not to shock students, parents and teachers, said Maszlee Malik.

The education minister said it would be alarming to immediately shake up the system, adding it needed to be done step by step.

“We need to do it bit by bit, if not everyone will be shocked. Even when I started making changes bit by bit, I was slammed,” he told reporters in a press conference at Putrajaya today.

However, Maszlee said since Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad entrusted him to overhaul the system, he would accept the challenge.

“I accept and I consider it a challenge for me. He is already 93-years-old, he wants to see his vision and dream crystalised,” he said.

The Simpang Renggam MP also said the Education Ministry would emphasis on anti-corruption in the revamped civics syllabus for schools starting next year.

Maszlee added this would be even introduced in pre-schools to give Malaysians a better understanding of bribery and corruption since young.

“We will introduce it in both (primary and secondary schools). It will be introduced in pre-school as well. But they may not have civics as a subject.

“They will have certain activities that will introduce them to certain good values and bad things that they must avoid,” he said.

Earlier today, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Shukri Abdull urged the Education Ministry to introduce anti-corruption as a separate subject in school.

Maszlee said instead of a separate subject it should be integrated in order not to burden students and teachers alike. – November 13, 2018.

  • What gradually ?? Your time line was yesterday !!!!. Giving excuses of "shock" is very very shallow for a man who are placeed in that position to warrant a drastic change. Start with the new young students coming in by next year which is only two months away from now., and streamline the new changes to next level. Strange that you feel proud and happy to announce your easy going manners in the task. Either you got it or totally

  • What rubbish is this? Maszlee you need another 61 years to overhaul the curriculum? Get rid of the deadwood in the ministry first and things will start moving very fast. Why allow education policy to be determined by racists, nationalists and religious fanatics who are also corrupted?
