SABAH should get a cut from the RM30 billion one-off special dividend that Putrajaya is seeking from Petronas, given that the state is behind 50% of oil production, said an Umno rep.

Karanaan assemblyman Masidi Manjun said it is a “golden opportunity” for Sabah to get a share of the monies.

“The dividend is derived from oil exploitation, and Sabah is responsible for 50% of the country’s oil production.

“This is a golden opportunity for us to ask (for a cut of the dividend) from Putrajaya, aside from the 5% oil royalty that Sabah has been getting all this while,” he said during the budget debate in the state assembly.

Pakatan Harapan’s election manifesto promised Sabah a 20% oil royalty if the pact won the May 9 polls.

Since winning the 14th general election, the PH govt has formed steering, action and technical committees to look into realising the polls promise.

The 20% oil royalty is in accordance with the terms of the Malaysia Agreement 1963. – November 13, 2018.
