BERSATU does not have a special task force to lure Umno members to join the party, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Bersatu president said those who quit Umno and signed up with Bersatu were doing it of their own accord.

“There is no special task force being set up by Bersatu to approach them.

“If ever there’s any intention on the part of Umno members to join us, not necessarily from the top, divisional, or branch level, it’s their choice,” he told reporters at Parliament today.

Muhyiddin was commenting on Annuar Musa’s statement yesterday in which the Umno secretary-general claimed many Umno MPs and assemblymen were being courted by outsiders to join another party.

The Pagoh MP said Bersatu is open to the public to join whether they are Umno or non-Umno members, as  long as they are willing to participate with what the party is fighting for.

“So that is not right. It depends on anyone (to join the party).

“We do not have a special task force encouraging Umno members to join Bersatu. That is not our plan,” he said.

Annuar had said he was having a tough time trying to keep Umno members together in the party.

His remarks follow Guar Chempedak representative Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail’s announcement that he is quitting Umno to become an independent in the Kedah state assembly. – November 13, 2018.
